Matthew Reed

Quarterback

Matthew Reed came to Birmingham as an unknown rookie out of Grambling. At least he was unknown to folks from Birmingham. He was a highly regarded field general for Eddie Robinson. But when he left the Magic City his reputation was the stuff of legends. Reed’s athletic ability, fearless leadership, and cannon right arm endeared him to the fans of Birmingham. #11 in your program was the man Jack Gotta called on in times of peril during the ’74 season and he’s the one Marvin Bass handed the reins of the offense to in ’75. Reed led many memorable comeback victories and created many memories for Ams & Vulcans fans.
