John Matlock Center Prior to the inaugural vs Southern California Matlock played his collegiate football at the University of Miami. He then spent time in the NFL with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills & Atlanta Falcons. He was the anchor of the offensive line in both ’74 and ’75. Matlock was voted team captain in 1974 along with LB Ross Brupbacher. After his playing days ended, he stayed in Birmingham, where he still resides.
