Denny Duron QuarterbackBirmingham Americans head coach Jack Gotta said that QB Denny Duron was the only player he knew he couldn’t cut “…because God would strike me dead.” This of course was in reference to Duron’s strong Christian life. But Duron was more than one of the team’s spiritual leaders; he was also a valuable member of the Ams high-powered offense. While Duron was listed at quarterback in the program, the talented signal-caller from La. Tech also pulled duty at wide receiver. Duron is the only Birmingham player to ever throw a TD pass and catch a TD pass. Duron stepped up to be Matthew Reed’s backup in ’75 and ably led the offense when Reed went down to injury.
