Art Cantrelle Running Back
Art Cantrelle was, in Ams Head Coach Jack Gotta’s words, the toughest football player I’ve ever coached. Cantrelle was an integral cog in the Ams offense in 1974, and was the Vulcan’s leading ground gainer in 1975. His toughness allowed him to play through an injured ankle late in the ’74 championship season, when he provided clutch runs for big first downs. Cantrelle also knew how to find the end zone, as he was the third ranked scorer in the WFL in 1975. The LSU product also stands as the WFL’s #8 all-time rusher.
Cantrelle, along with Joe Profit (5), Johnny Musso (22), & Matthew Reed (11) were part of a great backfield the Vulcans unleashed in 1975
