Information to Order your World Bowl Ring This important message goes out to all members of the 1974 World Football League Birmingham Americans - especially George Mira, Paul Robinson, Charley Harraway and Gary Gennerich - who were denied World Bowl championship rings because of the financial demise of the team. Thirty years of waiting, wandering and worrying is over. Your rings are now available! After weeks of research, dozens of telephone calls and some wonderful help from "Ams" team members, especially wide receiver Dennis Homan, I found the company that made the rings - Jonsil Manufacturing Inc., of El Paso, Texas. The company found all the records regarding "the ring," and is remaking the rings for the players. All you have to do is make one important telephone call and, in eight weeks, a beautiful ring will be attached to your finger. The price: $800 (includes a real diamond). An additional $9 shipping yields a total of $809. One quick note: The ring itself is $525 with cubic zirconium diamond. But please don't settle for a fake. Please follow these simple steps to get your ring: 1) Call Jonsil Manufacturing TOLL FREE at 1-866-229-5581. Regular number is (915) 544-4245 (ext. 106). 2) Ask for Sales representative Carmen Gutierrez (her hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain Standard Time). 3) Tell her you are a member of the 1974 Birmingham Americans and you want your World Bowl ring. 4) Have a credit card and your finger size available. 5) She will send out the order and mail you a copy of the order & receipt. 6) Half the cost will be placed on your credit card at time of order. The remainder is due at time of delivery. A special thank you goes out to Dennis Homan, who was a HUGE help. He drove to the bank, got his ring out of a safe deposit box, found the name of the manufacturer on it and called me with the information. He even had the toll-free number. I checked the company Web site out and found sales rep Carmen Gutierrez. Carmen is standing by, waiting for your call. I have three goals remaining: A) For all Birmingham Ams to have their championship rings for this summer's 30-year championship reunion. B) To secure a major sponsor so that players can be reimbursed for the ring they deserved 30 years ago. C) To visit all the wonderful "Ams" at the reunion. (I report to Bengals training camp on July 29). Here's wishing all the best to Mira, Robinson, Harraway and Gennerich - and every other "Am" who didn't get a ring. May you get one now. Said Gennerich, who was nearly moved to tears when I contacted him in Atlanta: "I've thought about my ring three to four times a year for 30 years. It took a guardian angel like you to get the job done." I don't view myself as any sort of savior or guardian angel. I'm just a sportswriter at the Dayton Daily News in Ohio who covers the Cincinnati Bengals, and wants to see a group of guys get the ring they earned and deserve.
